More Fun has been set up to provide families the opportunity to get out and enjoy the fun and adventure that is a part of being a New Zealander.

With the busy life styles people are now leading and all the constraints and red tape placed upon our resources many parents either do not have the time or know where to look to find good old basic family adventure, like drifting down river in a tube, catching a trout and cooking it on an open fire. Where they can camp and have no one within sight or sound of your camp site, where you go for a little walk grab a bunch of dry fire wood and show your children how to light a fire, roast potato’s, toast marshmallows in the embers or do baked chocolate bananas Yum!!

This is what we do best; create a smorgasbord of family fun and adventure. Much of which is best illustrated on the web site or by calling us in person.

Recent Trips

Over the last few months we have had some fantastic trips and activities with families, friends and some corporate group bookings.

From running a 2 to 3 hour fun based challenge tailored to a conference group with a specific outcome, to a little boys 5th birthday who wanted a mystery treasure hunt where we set out a bunch of clues in the form of pieces of a treasure map and the last having the final coordinates for the boys to get digging.

There was our Easter extravaganza on the Mohaka River. Where we used white water, sit-on and inflatable kayaks, also a raft to get the best out of a 12km section of the Mohaka River.

Then there was the wilderness horse trekking some went out for an hour others for 3-1/2 hours and this got the WOW!! effect. Many spills and thrills had by all and the confidence the mums, dads and their children gained over the 4 days was fantastic and so much so that some may return to do this on their own. (The Boyz are already asking).

We have also been to the special spot on the Waikato River to enjoy the freedom of riverside camping without a soul in site, swimming down rapids, soaking in natural hot pools and lots more. Kids catching trout then proceeding to prepare and cook in the thermals on the rivers edge, to date the best trout I’ve tasted. Caught and cooked with in the hour and all el natural. Roll on summer I miss swimming and playing on the river. Check our the photo album and slide show.

Mountain Bike Trips

We have been getting onto our bikes doing some research for some new activities based in Auckland and Taupo.

We have found some very user friendly tracks in the Wood hill forest some of which we did our own little adjustments to suit the little 4-1/2 year old we had with us at the time and his first time off his trainer wheels and then went off with a couple of the older ones avoiding all the extreme jumps and the like. There is plenty of space for heaps of riders without getting in trouble with others. For the track info please visit: www.bikepark.co.nz

In Taupo, an old riding ground for me. There are a lot of new tracks, the web site has all of these on it. Lots of fantastic riding for kids from the age of 7 or 8 years thru to the gung - ho riders. However not much for the real littlies who want to go out with their big brothers, I am looking into this over the next two months.

We have created a couple of bike orienteering challenges within one of the Craters of the Moon MTB areas. For the track info please visit: www.biketaupo.org.nz.

Family Fun Afternoons & Kids Birthday Parties

Family fun afternoons often consist of activities the parents are comfortable running like bike rides, walks and exploring the beaches lakes and similar spots nearest to your home and on those horrid winter rainy days picking up a video and snuggling up to a great family video.

Well stick to the winter horrid weather option but should you want an interesting fun learning family fun time out for a couple of hours check out some of your local parks and reserves and with a little imagination you can create a fantastic little treasure hunt/orienteering activity to suit kids from 5 to 85.
We have run a number of these on North head for home school groups, birthday parties and good old family fun days out.

We have one that needs no set up and all you need is a pencil, the map and clues. You will be able to get this from our freebies page and then email us your answers and we will send you your results.

We also have these with themes to them such as Kids Fear Factor, Treasure Island, The Mad Mad Scientist and if you have a theme you would like to use we will create the perfect adventure party for you. This is what we do best.

Wilderness Kayak & Rafting Trips

Too cold now to do any of this stuff but we will plant the seed now. As the autumn and winter crept up on us quickly so too will the spring and summer. Mark in your calendar our first of the season wilderness trip over Labour weekend, the Mighty Motu trip. We jet boat up river and camp in true wilderness style. Huge riverside fires and I mean huge!! and wilderness.

We are about 30kms up river and to walk out is not an option. We spend the next 2 days floating down river to where the jet boat left from. Only the sounds of rapids, native birds, and the occasional rustles from the bush of deer and possibly wild pigs can be heard.

We did this trip last year and have families on the waiting list to join us and repeat this awesome experience. An added option is being investigated at present. That is to helicopter into the upper reaches and enjoy a one day grade 3 and 4 white water trip finishing at the camp site where the jet boat will drop off the easy river trip group. To join on this trip as a kayaker you will need grade 3 kayaking experience or you can jump onto the raft but only suitable for people over 16yrs.

Other magical trips are being created to help you get the most out of the wilderness trips.
